Oldest Pub in Nantwich

The Black Lion has lived through many chapters in Nantwich history.

From its heyday as tannery town famed for boot production to becoming a spa resort for wealthy Victorians who soaked up the healing salt waters of a natural brine pool.

Our home on Welsh Row is evidence of ancient links to salt production which brought Roman troops and Welsh traders seeking precious supplies to preserve food.

Above our door you will see the date 1664 but an inn is thought to have stood on this site for many decades before.

Outstanding in every way

Wonderful Saturday teatime visit to this lovely old pub. The Falafel & Bhaji Salad with Moroccan spiced cous cous salad, harissa dressing was gorgeous, lots of different things on a plate and so tasty & filling. The Cheese pie & chunky chips enjoyed by my other half was full of flavour and even better with gravy. Outstanding in every way.
